History of the Regions Bank:
The merger of 3 banks of Alabama led to the institution of the Regions Bank. The year was 1971 when First National Bank of Montgomery, Exchange Security Bank of Birmingham and First National Bank of Huntsville united to form the First Alabama Bancshares. All the 3 banks continued to function independent of each other till about 1985 when the official merger happened. In 1992, the Regions Financial Corporation that was earlier called as First Alabama Bancshares, named its banking subsidiary as Regions Bank that went on to become one of the major banking institutions in the US in the next few decades to come.
Regions Bank has since its operations that started in 1992, acquired a number of companies to come under its belt. Morgan Keegan, AM South Bank, and Union Planters are the major ones to name.
